It’s picnic time!

The location: where are you off to?
It’s a vital decision …
There are lovers of solitude, who don’t hesitate to dive deep into the forest …
Ah, hundreds of yards to cover followed by more or less enthusiastic children and
by mosquitoes in full battle array, your arms laden because you just have to take
a cool box if you want your drinks properly chilled … Or the organised ones, who
prefer well run parks, where you’re sure to find tables, benches, rubbish bins, a
children’s play area, even a little snack bar for emergency refuelling!
“You want to stop there? No way, you can’t see the sun, arghh it’s got nettles,
I can hear the cars, no it’s far to close to those other people…”
In short, it’s hard to find your own corner of paradise.

The equipment: what are you taking?
Mustn’t forget the essentials! Bottled water, a corkscrew, paper napkins??? In
practice, picnics follow a number of patterns… from the most minimalist (you’ve
got your own sandwich?) to the most sophisticated. Everyone thinks of Meryl Streep
and Robert Redford in Out of Africa, dining with crystal glass in the African jungle…
Fortunately, today you can be both practical and pretty.
Little touches make all the difference: disposable wooden cutlery, the tire-rondelle, a
flask of coffee, a nice tablecloth … Forget about sliced ham in a plastic packet and
commercially made rolls.

The menu: the pleasure of the picnic begins here.
You want to eat properly! Take a look at what you can do with
Le Parfait jars: why not take some foie gras? Just add a decent loaf and the tone is set.
You could also prepare a special terrine of sardines, peppers in olive oil, tomatoes and
mozzarella or a good ratatouille you can eat cold (prepare some fresh coriander to throw
in at the last minute) … and for dessert, what about a home-made compote like mother used
to make?
On a picnic, glass jars have many advantages: easy to carry (no risk of spillage), no litter
(you bring them back, wash them and they’re as good as new) and you can create a complete meal
from just two or three jars!
